Posi-Tone Records recording artist and 2011 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award winner Brent Canter has quickly become a buzz worthy artist in today’s jazz scene. As a guitarist and as the leader of BC3, his modern organ trio, Canter has developed a reputation for innovation with his band which features organist Adam Klipple and drummer Jordan Perlson. Drawing on the an eclectic mix of influences including modern indie rock, jazz and pop, BC3 creates music that is at once accessible and always pushing the boundaries of the organ trio format. The group was recently described by New York’s Encore Magazine as ‘on the cutting edge’ and the Hollywood Weekly describes Canter’s compositions as ‘a new vocabulary for jazz’ and as ‘the new jazz standards for his generation’. BC3’s latest recording, Urgency of Now, sees the trio joined by acclaimed saxophonist Seamus Blake and features Pat Bianchi, another of today’s most notable organists. The recording consists entirely of the original material which the group has developed over the course of their many performances in New York City venues including Smalls, 55 Bar, Nublu, Iridium and through their weekly residency at Covo Lounge in Harlem. The recording captures the high energy performances which are the group’s signature and which set BC3 apart as a must see live act.

Brent Canter’s musical development began in Los Angeles, California where he was born and raised. While in high school Canter began to perform at notable venues including the Jazz Bakery, Catalina’s and the Roxy Theater. After receiving a scholarship to study music at UCLA from legendary guitarist Kenny Burrell, Canter began to work with his own organ trio at Burrell’s recommendation. With this group Canter recorded his jazz debut, 2008’s 'Soundscape', which garnered critical acclaim and national radio airplay on jazz, college and independent radio stations. That same year Canter participated in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC which recognizes the best under-30 jazz musicians.

Canter now calls New York City his home and is an active member of the city’s thriving music scene. Canter’s groups have shared billing with artists ranging from legendary organist Lonnie Smith to the innovative hip hop group The Roots and have appeared at festivals across the United States. As a leader he has performed with notable peers including Ben Wendel, Bob Reynolds, Tim Lefevre, Josh Nelson, Noah Preminger, Nate Smith, Mark Ferber, Tamir Hendelman, Linda Oh, Brian Charette, Joe Bagg, Carmen Intorre and Jared Gold.
